Tradition noted. History referenced. Homage paid.
A new denim label being designed and launched by the former designer and co-founder of Paper Denim and Cloth, Scott Morrison, is a boutique based brand that pays homage to it’s Americana past. Easrnest Sewn mixes for perhaps the first time, a traditional American denim work aesthetic with the ancient Japanese visual system of Wabi-sabi.
Earnest Sewn sources the highest quality American, Italian and Japanese ringspun denims. Production is limited to what are arguably the best cutting, sewing and laundry facilities in the United States. The total number of products produced each year will be limited, further adding to the uniqueness and quality-driven allure of the new brand.
Although several concepts are referenced throughout the collection, a dominant theme can be seen in Morrison’s adoption of the Japanese aesthetic system of traditional beauty, Wabi-sabi. At its core, Wabi-sabi is the beauty of things imperfect, impermanent, and incomplete … such is life. The idea that perfection can be found in the imperfect is not a new thought, but when combined with distinctly American products such as jeans and workwear, the result is fresh and unexpected.
Focusing on each individual jean and the numerous amounts of processing, hand application, and refinishing techniques used to create their vintage aesthetic, Earnest Sewn, takes it one step further and specifically incorporates imperfection and inconsistency into key design elements. This is exhibited in irregularities in the stitch detail, sewing construction, trim, even thread variation, all of which can be appreciated by consumers and collectors alike.
Furthermore, Earnest Sewn, pays homage to our love of Americana and the world's everpresent interest with American themes and icons. One example of this iconic integration can be found in the stitch detailing of all Earnest Sewn denim products. The thread colors are a signature powder blue and high-contrast orange, reminiscent of the old Gulf Oil racing cars, which became synonymous with motor sport success at Le Mans in 1968, 1969, and 1975 and immortalized in the 1970 Steve McQueen movie of the same name.
This is no blue jean, it’s the byproduct of their obsession with denim, the fading mystique of American ingenuity and craftsmanship, and a fresh interpretation of an everyday need; each piece handcrafted to perfection.
-----------
The waist is angled up on the sides & in the back - so while it is a low rise jean in the front, it is not only higher in the back, but on the sides as well! A truely unique design that has been the perfect compromise between a low rise jean & a flattering cut.
